It is a GOOD time to check your well water

Next week Tuesday (March 27th) in the morning I will be talking with Kevin Masarik, UW-Extension Groundwater Education Specialist about well testing. Grilling with Beer

On Tuesday morning I talked to Lucy Saunders author of Grilling with Beer. She lives in Milwaukee and I wanted to let you know one more time how to get your hands on her recipe book. The phone number is 1-800-760-5998 or the website is http://www.grillingwithbeer.com/. It looks like an excellent cookbook.

The FDL Co. 4-H Speaking Contest was Monday evening. It is always refreshing to see these young people prepare and deliver those presentations. Congratulations to all of the 40+ contestants. All young people are gifted and talented, they just need organizations like 4-H and FFA to help develop those gifts and talents and lets NOT forget the adults that dedicate their life to the young people. Listen to 4-H and FFA On the Air on Friday and Saturday morning at 6:45 this week to hear from the members who topped their rooms. Till next time...

Milwauke Public Market

Last week I received an e-mail from Jeanne Carpenter at the Dairy Business Innovation Center (DBIC) It was information about a artisanal cheese and micro-brew tasting event at the Milwaukee Public Market in the Historical Third Ward in Milwaukee. I rounded up my posse (Nick and Janet Schneider, Joann and Bill Maedke, Pat and Rebecca Ries and of course my husband Ray) and headed down there on Sunday. The Milwaukee Public Market in itself was worth the trip. It consists of specialty shops in an open market environment. The shops included..spice, fresh seafood, meat counter and a HUGE cheese shop etc.. The cheese case was so impressive I asked Joann Maedke, "doesn't this just make you proud to be a dairy farmer"? I bought a half pound of cherry muenster and a half pound of hickory nut muenster. I could have purchased a ton more but I wanted to create an excuse to come back. This was all indoors but they have outdoor markets on weekends in summer. The atmosphere was great! The cheese and brew event was really nice. Very informative and gave us lots of ideas for our Ag showcase next year on March 1st. It turned out to be a fun and unique event for a Sunday afternoon...Til next time

Ag Day at the Capitol

On Wednesday, I attended Wisconsin Farm Bureau's, Ag Day at the Capitol. It was designed to get producers to Madison and teach them how and give them to experience in contacting their legislators. It is an extremely educational event. I traveled with FDL Co. Farm Bureau members Jim Schneider, Bernard Halbur, Don Schmitz, Tony Koenig, Tim Haack. Also attending from Fond du Lac County were Richard Julka, Trayton Greenfield, Duane Bille and Rueben Hopp. I have been down there with most of them before but it is always a ton of fun and you all know I Love Fun! Issues like Health Care, Conservation, Anumal ID, and much more are discussed Specifically, We talked to Senator Carol Roessler and Rep. Al Ott, Sec of Ag Rod Nilsestuen and Attorney Ron Kuehn. Ron is the attorney who handled the law suit involving the cranberry growers and the A.G. this past year. It is great to have organizations like Farm Bureau that take the time to not just educate their members but INVOLVE them. Til next time...
